Motorola XOOM Rumored to Hit India on May 10

By Samir Makwana

Motorola had unveiled its first powerful tablet XOOM that caught everyone's attention at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011. Running Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb, the XOOM tablet has a 10.1-inch display and houses 1GHz Nvidia Tegra T20 and 1GB DDR2 RAM. Online retailer Infibeam has listed Motorola XOOM tablet for pre-order at Rs. 35,000. The release date of the tablet has been cited as 10 May, 2011. We've contacted Motorola Mobility India spokesperson for confirmation on the same and we ll update you as soon as we hear from them.

The new Motorola XOOM competes with Apple iPad 2 in terms of hardware specifications and features. At this moment, we get Samsung Galaxy Tab, OlivePad and Apple iPad in India at price points between Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 45,000 approximately. The arrival of Motorola XOOM at a pre-order price of Rs. 35,000 is a bit surprising as it is still Rs. 1,000 less than its official price in U.S. - $800 (Rs. 36,000 approx.).

Motorola XOOM houses dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra SoC processor, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 2 megapixel front facing camera, 5 megapixel camera at back panel with 720p HD video record feature, Wi-Fi, gyroscope, accelerometer, barometer and e-Compass.

Motorola XOOM may get some potential consumers before the Apple iPad 2 becomes available in India officially. Motorola is expected to release the Flash Player 10.2 update for the XOOM tablet.
